If your toilet won't drain properly, use a plunger to attempt to restore normal function. As you pump the plunger, be careful not to flush the toilet, or you could cause the toilet to overflow and flood your bathroom.
Many household drains can also be cleared using a plunger. If your shower or sink drain regularly clogs, you may need to fish out any debris lodged in the pipes. Many hardware stores sell drain cleaning tools for a few dollars that can help. Do not use corrosive chemicals to clear your drain.
If your home loses power due to downed power lines, your neighborhood will likely have several homes impacted. Utility companies will work on restoring power as quickly as possible. You can call your electrical provider for an ETA.
If your home loses power for another reason, locate your circuit breaker to reset your home's electrical system. If power is not restored, call your utility provider.
Your home's hot water heater should maintain constant access to heated water. If you don't have any hot water, locate the tank and check that the settings haven't been changed accidentally. If the tank has a reset cycle, attempt to reset your tank and wait for 20 minutes to see if it's working again.
Check your thermostat before you do anything else. If you can reset the thermostat, attempt to do so. You may also wish to call your utility company to see if your account has any problems.
